Bruce Calise: If you eat 1200 and burn 500 it doesn't matter what my fitness pal says, your have a deficit. That gives you net calories of 700. You burn more than that by living. You really should eat more. You don't want to eat less than your BMR. Its best to eat at your BMR and create a deficit through exercise and just moving around (BMR is if you stayed in bed all day).
