I need to build something for a hanging garden...?

Luke Gacusan: i would build a window box type container and set it on the patio, or you can buy huge plastic planters, either would work great. Rather then using the table just sit it on the patio stones as you will need it fairly deep to have any kind of success with it. I would not do onions as you need a large amount to be worth trying to container grow, also with beans, i;d go with the variety that climbs, otherwise you would need lot of plants to get sufficient amount for a meal....dont forget both beans and onions you use once its gone...so plant things that get expensive and keeps on growingcheck these outhttp://search.yahoo.com/search?p=container+gardeni......Show more

Cortez Badolato: build hanging garden

Corrina Faro: You can do something that looks like this, excuse the cruddy drawing:FRONT VIEW ........||''''''''''''''''''|| ........|| ........|| ^ hanging ........|| arm||''''''''''''''||''''''''''''''||||XXXX||XXXX|| """.....".! ....""'^.leg..^..leg ^SIDE VIEW.......T .......||.......|| .......||.......||''''''''''''''||XXXX||XXXX|| .......".....""".......^.leg..^Disregard all of the periods...it won't let me "draw" this right because it takes all of the spaces out. The "legs" would be fitted to (within 1/2" the overall height and width) the end of the table, and would slip over it. You could even connect the legs together for more support. I would suggest using 2X4's, and I would also suggest using stainless-steel screws (#10 screws at 3" of length should work fine). The more you can slip the base onto the table, the more holding power you will have. Use watersealer on the wood, or use some kind of outdoor paint or deck sealant.I do not reccomend using clamps - stainless steel clamps would be expensive and hard-to-find, and anything else used for clamps will give over time due to weathering or be WAY too expensive. Glues and epoxies will break down from the UV in sunlight over time as well, thoug! h this will take longer than, say, steel rusting. You could mak! e multiple baskets hang from multiple arms. I would use 45-45-90-degree triangular pieces cut from 2X4s for support. I don't have it shown, but I would use these to stiffen up anywhere where pieces form a 90-degree angle. If you really didn't want to do anything using the table, you could make a stand out of wood in the shape of a question mark, where the basket would hang "inside" the arc of the question mark directly above the center of the base (to make it the most balanced), and the base would be large and spread out (preferrably a circle, but a square shape would suffice). My fear would be that this will have a tendency to blow over in the wind.I'm a drafter/designer, so if you wanted me to draw a quick design of this I'd be happy to, free of charge. Give me a thumbs-up by making an addendum to this question, or send an e-mail to semitangible@hotmail.com....Show more

Curt Broadhead: From what I remember they built the hanging garden of Babylon, because some king w! anted to remind his foreign queen of her homeland with various vegetation and the like.

Jude Colbenson: All i can suggest it to nail wide boards around the table top and bench's and add a liner, fill with dirt and use it as a box garden. as for tomatoes at Walgreen's they sell hanging upside down tomato holders.
