answers 0:Right now we are cutting costs incase my hubby gets laid off cause you never knowwe have turned one cell phone off, we need the other and I have it on prepaid only for emergenicesWe have started eating less portions to have more left overs.We have always bought generic food for the most part but now more than ever, we dont splurge, so no junk food or comfort foods,lolIve given up my 3 starbucks a week habit, that was a wowser thereright now we keep our thermostat at 69 during the day and 65 at night ( its in the 30's during the day and 20 at night, a few night in single digits outside )we have lessened the amount that is going into the kids college funds for a short while to see where things leadthose are just some examples, what are you doing to cut costs if you are and if you dont have to, thats great !...Show moreanswers 1:make our own food instead o! f going out to eat, two shopping trips a month instead of when ever, basic channels for tv, and ten percent set aside for emergencies.answers 2:We gave up blockbuster to use redbox. How could we not? Only $1 per rental.I stopped buying any name brand groceries (except for about 5 things) because groceries have doubled in the past year.I started carrying cash and found that I'm much more picky about where it goes, instead of a bank card where I just put whatever on because I know it's in the bank. When my cash is gone- it's gone. I don't go back to the ATM to get moreI put all my errands into one day of the week to save on gas*Even though the economy hasn't affected us *that* badly, it cannot be ignored that the prices have rose on mostly everything we purchase. Im working off paying my credit cards off BUT we are still under the american a! verage for credit card debt. We also cut out a few channels from the cable, turned off the data plan from the cell phones, try to turn off electric things when not in use - the lights are the hardest to remember! Just basically cutting out the un-necessaries until times are better.answers 6:I have been clipping coupons and making things that can be frozen. I keep my heat at 68 during the day and 64 at night. I figure you can always wear a sweater. I bought and run a humidifier--it keeps the air moist so it doesn't feel as cold in the houseI hand wash my dishes-it uses less water and electricity than a dishwasherI use only a cell phone, I have no land line, as it's cheaper this way. I stock up on soap, tissues, shampoo, laundry detergent, toilet paper, etc when it's on saleI ! try to group appointments together so it's less trips and I changed doctors and dentists so they're in the same building or near places I regularly shop at. I rarely buy soda and never get coffee outI stopped buying so many books and frequent the libraryI run the dryer only when I need to, otherwise I hang dry my clothes...answers 7:Making homemade laundry detergent. It's very easy and washes just as well as the regular stuff. I can make enough for a whole month with one batch.answers 8:we haven't had to do so much. our house is paid for so that's one worry we don't have to think about.we don't eat out that much any way so we just cut that once a month. and my husband has agreed to not buy season passes to sporting games this year. we opened another savings account so we can have money saved away just in case. we have always had the energy saving appliances. and we have cut up are credit cards and we are down to two each.answers 9:pixie I hear ya on that and OH not eating ! out, ugh I hear ya girlanswers 10:We have paid off almost all of our cr! edit cards. Our monthly expenses have gone down so much since then.I am cooking more, and saving more leftovers.Turning down the heat, saving on electricity.Taking advantage of sales - buying in bulk when I can.Taking a lunch instead of going out.Bought a water filter and a reusable bottle for water rather than buying individual bottles.Cut cable tv and land line. Would have cut the expensive internet (gone down to a lower speed, etc.) but my husband needs it to work.Even when things aren't so tight, I think everyone has great suggestions to help create extra money each month to put to savings or to pay off debt....answers 11:cool samantha.
