Herma Ellebrecht: Make sure the firewall on each machine allows the exception for file and printer sharing, if not turn it on. Go to the tcp/ip properties of the connection and in advanced use the wins tab and turn on always use netbios over tcp/ip. It will argue about an empty wins address, over-ride this. I assume you have shared folders and printers set up. You do not need to map the drives, you can just browse to them. Do NOT share the whole drive on either machine, this is the easiest way to accidentally trash the system. The recycle bin is inactive over the network....Show more
Lorine Helwick: Hard to answer when i don't know what OS you're running on both pcs. The main thing is that you need to make sure both pc have the same networkgroup name. You also need to go to your LAN properties and make sure you have the File and Printer Sharing enable. Afterward, just pick any folder you want to share and enable sharing in the properties tab. Check your router setti! ng to see if you can see the IP address on both pcs, need to enable DHCP server.
Hal Rouse: Yeah you can do that with windows file sharing. I would suggest doing a google search on "how to share a folder" for the operating system that you are using.
Valentine Willinger: What OS are you using? If you are using Vista, you can forget about file sharing, Vista's security is too strong. It is really annoying. If you are not using Vista, just right click on the folder you want to share and go to sharing.
Francisco Schonhardt: I assume you are running win2k/xp.First can you see the other computers on your network? If Yes, skip the next step.If No, ensure that all are in the same workgroup or domain, Right click My Computer, Network Identification, the Workgroup should be the same on all computers, click Properties and update as required. You'll need to Restart you computer if changes were required.Turn off windows and other software firewalls, for now and when ! you turn them back on some configuration may be required. You s! hould now be seeing the other computers on your network. You may need to Login to the other computers, depending on you settings for that computer. To share folders right click on the folder you want to share and enable file sharing.
