Why are computer/video games better socially accepted than board/trading card games?

Shad Bushweller: From the answers I've gotten so far everyone has basically said that is too hard to start playing a board game or that it's old fashioned. But what is wrong with playing one? Just the fact that it's not common to be bothered learning the rules?

Tommy Durrenberger: Because apparently video games are the only thing that people can understand. board/card games have so many rules and (I still love Pokemon and Yugioh card games but i dont play them becasue of your question) video games are more exciting and energetic. in my opinion though, the term "mind blowin video games" has more then one meaning.

Rosalba Lingner: well board and card games tend to have a lot of over head to them when it comes to getting a game together, where video games are much easier to pickup and play when you wantyou aren't correct when it comes to the social detriments of computer games text and voice chat can get pretty personal(not just talking about whats in the game) w! hen someone decides to start talking about such things....Show more

Chris Rosenkranz: Computer games test patience, attention to detail, reflexes, and potentially memory. They also enhance all of these - you can play a game alone.HOWEVER? if "friends" come over, you can end up drinking, dicking around for lulz instead of properly enhancing those skills. Also, people are retarded so they can and will ruin your fun - simply because they can. That ruins your attention and your fun, making it moot....Show more

Estrella Northway: I just got the same link as Lily: There, also the most popular card game "jass" is described. It's a traditional game, but some people go crazy. There are even official tournaments and television shows all about jass. Have fun. :)

Wilfredo Muldoon: Board games are old-fashioned and boring. Video games are modern, everyone has a computer or a console, so everyone plays computer games.
