But, it is in a way that explains the concept behind the question and lets the questioner figure out the right answer or I've given a website to help.I see many students who post a question, and just want it answered for them. I don't give answers to them or to the students in my class.I have also noticed that many people who answer don't know anything about the subject. Some of the answers are just plain wrong. I believe that like any other educational resource, YA can be helpful to clarify or assist, but I don't like it when a "student" want the work done for him/her.And, yes, I am flabbergasted by some of the questions. Esteban Faggett: I think! YA can be a great tool for students who really need help or guided in the correct diffracting, so they can find the answers on their own. I too am flabbergasted by the questions ask; here's my homework what's the answer,? especially when they just needed to pick up a dictionary.I enjoy helping a student who does not quite understand or does not know where to look for the answers, but find a web site that will answer their problem and/or give examples/explanations. I never give the entire answer, YA is not there on a test.The internet is easier than opening a book and reading; you've seen the questions "need a book on-line." Students' have told me they have never read a book; they watch the movie.As for parents and siblings helping, you have both parent working, meetings, sports, etc. Some of the math kids have to take parents never had and new math is coming back.Hope this clarifies some of your questions....Show more
Fritz Hawkey: As a student, I will tell you that! not a lot of students will really be helped by YA. They might! , if its a simple math equation, but otherwise, users who mostly answer homework questions get their answers from the web, they just google it etc. I've seen questions where a student was asking for help in writing an essay including a list of historical figures. that student didn't get much help, because no one is willing to do somebody else's work. As a future teacher myself *(two more year till i receive my BA)*, I am not worried about students getting help from YA. I know they are limited to the amount of help they will receive. All in all, a teacher will know a students level of performance, and if an assignment is submitted that sounds copied, a teacher can just quote it, and sure enough will it come out on YA---also known as plagiarism....Show more
Rosalia Hibler: Honestly may be they need someone else to help clarify it. May be someone else can explain it better so they understand it better. It doesn't mean their lazy or didn't pay attention it just means so m! etimes that they just need a different way of approaching it. As long as the work isn't done for them. When I have essay questions for college I usually ask my friends to read it over may be they can spot a mistake that I missed. Our professors actually e ncourage us to do that.
